Hi, Steve here. The 2026 AMV Competition was hit with a delay this year and I wanted to take a moment to explain why. From the beginning, we've wanted to expand this event. The first step was/is going to be a yearly theme. Unfortunately, I got so caught up in the details of working it in that I let the opening of the event slip to the wayside and because of that, I don't feel that it's right to suddenly drop that theme on everyone when some amv's take months to make or are put together early in the year. If you would like to still create something around the theme we would love to see it, but no one should feel left out because of my time blindness. I am going to take this moment to announce that it is something we will be doing going forward along with a restructuring of the competition once we're able to field some questions to the people submitting this year. With that, I welcome you to The return of the COLOSSALCON NORTH AMV Competition! MYTH AND LEGENDS EDITION
Since the dawn of the modern internet, AMV's have permeated its code. Some of them rise so far above the shows or movies they're based on, they become a legend in their own right. The gods have taken notice and have tasked you to bring the FIRE. DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO SATISFY THE GODS?!
To add some inspiration, this year, we are introducing the concept of THEMES, with the first one being MYTHS AND LEGENDS. There's been quite the resurgence of mythology lately. With all of the media released recently involving The Odyssey, we wanted to give an opportunity for you to take advantage of that. Whether you use songs from epic the musical, or clips from shows/movies focused on mythical figures, we want to see just how far you can take it.
We will be using Youtube as our preferred medium of choice as it both encourages the reason this competition exists and is the best source for the program we are using to compile everything. However, if you are unable to use Youtube, we will still accept other forms of submission. Please email SidequestingSafari@gmail.com if you plan on using other methods of uploading. All AMVs must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CDT Sunday, November 8, 2026.
A public playlist of all entries available on youtube will be made and shared on all of the convention outlets including the official social media channels and main website.
Competition Information:
To be judged in this competition, one member of your group must have pre-registered for the con. Your BADGE ID number is the CONFIRMATION NUMBER on your registration email confirmation and you will submit that information in the form. If you have won a badge for this con, list what name or contact it would be under to verify instead.
Please, no AMV’s that are more than 1 year old. As much as we love seeing these amazing works of art, the purpose of this is to create an opportunity for new works to enter the community. As these will be shown in a public setting, we request some discretion in regards to content/audio. If our judges determine that your AMV is too graphic in any regard, they do have the ability to remove your entry from the competition. You will be notified of what parts were at issue and have an opportunity to adjust as long as you can resubmit before the deadline. Otherwise, you are welcome to submit those type of entries to our 18+ AMV event
Submission Categories:
The current groups you can enter into are: COMEDY, FOCUS, MIX. You can also select JUDGE’S CHOICE if you don’t know which group your AMV would fit best with. We may also reach out to change the category your AMV is in if the judges feel it would fit better in a different one.
COMEDY focuses on receiving laughs, irony, or being a parody.
FOCUS focuses on a character, relationship, story, or show.
MIX puts an extreme focus on the beats and transitions.
Judging Criteria:
AMV's will be judged on several metrics: Transitions, music, synchronization, lyricism, editing, and theme with different weight being given depending on which group the AMV is in.
Length:
Minimum: 55 seconds
Maximum: 4 minutes 30 seconds
Media used:
Use whatever sparks your imagination. As long as it is “anime adjacent” we are open to it
Solo or Group:
It can be an individual, it can be a colab. Some people have different strengths and if you want to work together on a submission you are more than welcome.
Maximum number of entries:
This year, we are limiting the number of entries to 2, so that everyone has a fair chance at being seen.
The Form
Please fill out the entry form, and you will be entered in and be receiving an email from us soon! If the entry form is closed then all spots have been taken by other entries, but we hope to see you at the competition and see your submission next year or at another Colossalcon hosting this competition!
